Teaching methods

The object of additional private tuition is to improve the students understanding, knowledge and application of the subject studied. The approach used is flexible and tailored to the specific needs of the student. The style of the lessons are aimed to quickly develop confidence in the subject, creating a more positive attitude towards the subject. This improved confidence will also assist the student's learning in the classroom in addition to the private tuition.

Younger students

With younger students (as with all students) it is important that they develop a positive attitude to the lesson. Lessons are carefully pitched to the student's aptitude on the day. Young pupils can be over-awed by maths because their basic arithmetic is weak (often because of poor knowledge of the tables). John employs fun methods to help the youngster gain a sound working knowledge of the tables.  

Exam Preparation

Often the tuition is direct preparation for an examination (e.g. SATs, GCSE, or A-level). For these students, exam questions are studied to familiarise and prepare them for the style and level of questions they will face. Emphasis is applied to the correct interpretation of the question in terms of content and depth. In science subjects, particular emphasis is placed on mathematical questions where high marks can be easily secured.  

Home-Educated Students

For students who are Home Educated, John is available to teach them during the day. The syllabus will be covered to the necessary depth to prepare the student for any exams.
